The Professional Practice Examination (PPE), is a three-hour, closed-book exam on ethics, professional practice, engineering law and liability. Applicants may write this exam at any time. To reduce the time to licensure, applicants are encouraged to write the PPE early in the licensing process.

An Additional PPE Exam Session Scheduled at PEO Office

The Professional Practice Exam is written on three dates (April, August, December) at locations around the province each year. This year, an additional exam session has been scheduled on March 28 at the PEO head office at 40 Sheppard Ave West, Toronto. This is a pilot session.

If you are eligible to write the PPE and are not already registered for the April 14 session, you can register for the exam on March 28, 2012.

To register, please click here to visit the online payment page. You will need to enter your PEO file number and then download the special registration form. Once you have filled out the form, please fax it to PEO at (416) 224-8168 or (800) 268-0496. This method of payment is secure. Upon receipt of your registration, $165 will be charged to your credit card to cover the cost to write the PPE.

There are only 35 seats available at a first-come basis. If you register for the March 28, 2012 sitting and do not receive a confirmation within 10 days, please contact the exam centre.

All applicants must fill out an initial PEO application for licence and be issued a PEO file number.

Attention Accredited Engineering Canadian Graduates

The PPE is held three times a year, in the Spring, the Summer and the Fall. Once you submit a Licence Application to PEO you will be informed of the dates of these sittings.

You must submit an application to PEO and obtain a PEO file number before you can write the PPE.

Attention Internationally Engineering Trained Graduates

Applicants assigned a technical exam program cannot write the PPE until they write and pass all technical exams. These applicants are not required to fill out the initial PEO application form. These candidates have already completed the initial application for licence and have a PEO file number. Applicants must submit their initial application to PEO in order to be eligible to write the PPE.

Two months prior to the date of the examination, PEO's Exam Centre will send all eligible PPE candidates with a PEO file number a cover letter and an application inviting them to write the PPE.

PPE candidates who want to write the PPE at the next available sitting are required to submit their PPE application form with the appropriate payment to PEO's Exam Centre. If you do not receive the PPE package approximately two months prior to the sitting in question inform the Exam Centre. PEO is not responsible for mail delivery.
